Before you start, remember this:
Punk DIY is not about perfection.
It’s about experimenting, destroying & rebuilding.
Where to start:
- Choose one base piece: Start with something simple: a tee, singlet, cap or old jeans.
- Pick one technique: Don’t do everything at once. Bleach or paint or studs.
- Test first: Always test bleach or paint on a small area or scrap fabric.
- Build in layers: Chaos comes from layering not from rushing.
- Stop before it’s “too much”: You can always add more later.

CUT, OPEN, DESTROY
Everything starts with destruction. Before you can create something new, you have to break open what already exists. That means cutting, ripping, unstitching, and reshaping garments without fear.
Use:
- Scissors
- Box cutters
- Seam rippers
- Your hands
Don’t overthink it. Don’t try to be perfect. Raw edges, uneven lines and “mistakes” are not flaws they are design. This is how punk construction starts.

REBUILD & RECONSTRUCT
Once it’s broken, you rebuild it.
This is where your garment becomes something new.
Pin pieces together, try shapes, flip panels, layer fabrics, and stitch it in a way that feels right not “correct”.Try:
- Visible seams
- Inside-out construction
- Patchworking
- Exposed stitches
Nothing is final. Everything can be undone.
